The Texas A&M section of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) was recognized with two awards at the society's national SWE12 conference in Houston Nov. 8-10.

The Texas A&M chapter received the first-place Communications Award and the Outstanding Collegiate Section Gold Award. A group of 24 Aggies represented the chapter at the conference where members participated in seminars and professional development workshops, networked with other professional and collegiate SWE members, and attended a career fair with representatives from 250 corporations, government agencies and graduate schools.

The Look College participated in the conference with a booth for recruiting female engineering students for its graduate programs. In addition, Engineering Ambassadors and undergraduate engineering students supporting the college outreach and recruiting efforts participated in the ?Invent It. Build It.? portion of the conference targeting high school students interested in engineering.

With an active membership of more than 200 engineering students, the Texas A&M SWE chapter strives to serve the student body, the community, and the Dwight Look College of Engineering. More information about the chapter can be found at http://swe.tamu.edu/.

The College of Engineering Cohort students, which is 24 percent females, spoke with the high school students about opportunities in engineering at Texas A&M University, such as the Women Explore Engineering and Society of Women Engineers summer camps.

More than 6,000 attended the conference. For more on the conference visit http://we12.swe.org/.?
