What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Homeschooling?

Homeschooling, as an effective educational program, has undergone numerous debates. There are pros and cons, and these opinions are equally divided. There are a lot of benefits for homeschooling but there are also downsides in the implementation of the program. Before you get your child into the program, you first need to know the pros and cons. It is up to the parents to sift through the positives and the negatives of homeschooling.

What Are The Pros?

Dynamic And Flexible Structure

Being flexible and dynamic are reasons why homeschooling is in a stellar position. Homeschooling system, unlike traditional curriculum, is not fixed and encourages changes.

Tailor-Fit To The Child

Because of the fluid structure of homeschooling programs, the lessons can be tailor-fitted to the child?s capability, pace and learning style. Students are allowed to start and finish their lessons any time of the day and there?s no pressure to keep up with the lesson.

Practicality

Having an unstructured educational program, homeschooling allows freedom when it comes to learning activities. Deciding what to do to better teach the subject is a freedom that parents have. This means that there can be more unstructured learning exercises such as visits to zoos or museums.

What Are The Cons?

Lacking In Social Interaction

One of the disadvantages of homeschooling is that it lacks social component which would teach a child how to interact with other people. When children?s social and communication skills are just developing, this is especially needed. To supplement the absence of this component, some parents organize social activities for their children.

Time Constraints

Even though time is not really a factor in homeschooling since it lacks structure, this can only be applied to children. For parents it will be time consuming because it means leaving work to teach their kids full time. Remember that you have to be with your homeschooling child all through out his or her lesson. In addition, a lot of time need to be given to correcting worksheets and making visuals.

Financial Problems

Even if homeschooling programs doesn?t have a tuition fee, when one parent leaves work to teach the child then money problems may come later on. Remember that homeschooling can take so much time. For parents who both have careers, sacrificing one source of income can be pretty hard for the whole family.

Learn about solutions for heart.
