Olympian Hiroshi Hoketsu proves you're never ... - BBC World News

Most people use their retirement to potter about in the garden and relax ? but for 71-year-old dressage star, Hiroshi Hoketsu, life just keeps getting busier. Despite being the oldest competitor at this year?s Olympics, the septuagenarian cut a fine figure on his horse, Whisper, as he trotted around Greenwich Park. Hoketsu first appeared at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, where he finished 40th in showjumping. He didn?t qualify again until Seoul, in 1988, but had to pull out of the Games when his horse was quarantined. The retired businessman has made some astonishing sacrifices to keep his Olympic dream alive. He moved to Germany so he could train with Whisper and has not seen his wife for a year ? yet still hopes to perform at Rio in four years? time. The oldest Olympian of all time
